This car represents what some wish GM would have done!

Over the years GM has contracted a 3rd party to customize some of their best vehicles on a few different occasions. One such occasion that really stands out is the SLP Camaro SS and WS6 Trans Ams of the late 4th generation, but GM has been doing this long before the late ‘90s. In 1983, Chevrolet contracted a company out of Chattanooga, TN that had up until this point been building conversion vans since 1975. The project: an El Camino SS.

Starting with the front and working back, each Choo-Choo Custom El Camino SS received a special aerodynamic polyurethane front nose, machine turned aluminum side moldings, designer series door handle inserts, SS decals, and a Choo Choo Customs train emblem on the dashboard.

While these Aerodynamic and cosmetic upgrades were the standard included features of the custom El Camino, other options, such as a custom steering wheel, Western Star aluminum wheels, a moon roof, two-tone paint with accent striping, a cowl induction hood, side pipes, and a roof mounted airfoil wing, were also made available by Choo-Choo Customs.

Additionally, to create excitement for the Choo-Choo Customs edition El Caminos, Chevy hosted the 'St Louis Dealers El Camino SS Drive away' event in 1984. 120 brand new white 1984 Choo Choo Customs El Caminos that were distinguished by a special tailgate decal were personally picked up by Chevrolet dealers. Choo-Choo Customs also went on to build the IROC-S El Camino pace trucks for the Indy 500 and the replicas.

A stunning example of the Choo-Choo Customs El Camino SS is waiting for the right enthusiast at the Streetside Classics Charlotte showroom right now. With a glossy black finish, shiny trim, a near perfect plush interior, and only 42,155 miles on the clock, this opportunity is one that surely won’t last long. With less than 5,000 of these small block chevy powered customs made, the chance to own an original example for less than $20K may not come around again anytime soon.
