Not all Trans Ams have to be Bandits!

Black Trans Ams are as cool as The Bandit himself, but if you want to get a late second-gen T/A that really stands out, check out this 1978 Pontiac Trans Am. Since it was purchased in 1978, this Trans Am has resided with the same family, and now thanks to Midwest Car Exchange, this car is up for sale.

In addition to its bright Solar Gold paint job, this Trans Am has a more subtle styling difference to set it apart from other Trans Ams: no screaming chicken hood decal. The original owner special ordered the car without the iconic hood decal, but there is no mistaking this car for any other Firebird model. The fender vent, shaker hood and lower body extensions are all obvious T/A callouts. Inside, the metallic gauge cluster trim is one of the best parts of the Firebird interiors, while the Pioneer AM/FM/cassette player is a newer stereo with a classic-looking head unit.

A quick look at the original built sheet and Monroney sticker shows that the 6.6L V8 with the four-barrel carb was just a $75 option back then – best money ever spent. Backing up this engine is the M-21 four-speed manual transmission, which is claimed to be a rare option on this car. Currently, this car is wearing some sharp-looking Cragar wheels, but the buyer of this Trans Am also get the original take-off rally wheels.
