Back in 1965, the Shelby GT350 Mustang was first introduced, and it became an instant sensation on and off the track. Fast forward to September of that same year, Hertz and Peyton Cramer, Shelby American General Manager, collaborated on a 1966 Shelby GT350H as a rental car to attract potential buyers. Hertz Sports Car Club members were able to rent one for $17 a day and .17 cents a mile. Only 1,001 of these cars were produced, and only 800 were Raven Black with gold striping. Renting a Shelby GT350H was extremely popular among racing enthusiasts. Many would take it to the drag strip for a weekend of fun, but it would be returned in need of repairs. Others would remove the engine and stuff it inside their personal cars as to not damage the body of the rental. Before return, the high-performance engine was stuffed back inside the Hertz Shelby and returned.
